How did you become a coffee farmer?

Before becoming a coffee farmer we used to spend our free time hunting pigs in the old sugar cane fields and macadamia nut farms. On our way going to our hunting grounds we would pass by the young coffee trees and they got my attention. We are both coffee drinkers and slowly became inspired by the thought of growing our own coffee to brew and to eventually own our own farm/business. Being that there were limited opportunities to own our own business we decided to leap of faith and get into the coffee business. We also drew inspiration from the other farmers who were already in the business as well and thought that it would be an exciting new venture.

What are your biggest challenges as a coffee farmer?

There are a lot of challenges to being a coffee farmer both physically and mentally. But if you have a passion for what you do the rewards will outweigh the challenges so we don’t really look at it as a challenge, more of a speed bump that we have to navigate. It’ll slow you down but eventually get over it smoothly.

What are your biggest joys as a coffee farmer?

Seeing the beauty and productivity of your trees and watching them grow from babies to adults brings us so much joy. Like seeing your kids grow and blossom before you. We also love to see and hear people’s reactions after their first sip of our coffee. We are also motivated by the joy of receiving awards and recognitions at SCA cupping competitions and other organizations around the world.
